Goodbye 2007

Posted on December 31, 2007

I can’t believe 2007 is nearly over. It was a HUGE year for me. Full of all kinds of new experiences and life changing events. It wasn’t without it’s share of setbacks and tears BUT I’m completing the year full of hope, excitement and just an all around warm and cozy feeling about what lies ahead in 2008.
I recently came across this thread over at http://www.myscrapbookart.com/ and it presented the idea of finding my 7 favorite photos in 2007. It was hard to pick JUST 7, but I really loved the idea and took on the challenge! Now realize I didn’t get my new DSLR until October of this year, so I’ve only had a few months with it and only actually a few weeks where I actually have a clue how the darn thing even WORKS. So the majority of these were taken with my trusty old point and shoot.
TOP 7 in ’07

Wishing you all a beautiful 2008. Full of fun, laughter and excitement!

Cheers!

Lovely Day

Posted on December 25, 2007

So this was another holiday away from my parents, grandparents and siblings. Everyone else is in the U.S. and we’re in Germany. We had a lovely day with our little family and I honestly don’t have any complaints, but there are little moments when I do get sad and miss their daily/weekly presence in our lives. When I was a little girl my family and I would always sing Walking In a Winter Wonderland around the holidays, we sang it super cheesy and my mom and I would attempt and pretend we were successfully singing harmony. It was always so fun. I didn’t get to sing it this year…and even if I had tried by myself it wouldn’t have been the same. That’s a song I don’t know if I’ll be able to sing without my sweet Mama, at least not for awhile longer. I missed it. I missed it a lot. But it’s okay, I’m okay and I’m loving the little things I do with my own little family! Who knows…maybe in the coming years when Kate is old enough to know Christmas songs she and I will sing an original rendition of our own attempt at a harmonious cheeseball Christmas carol…you just never know. :)

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Here I sit snuggled up on my couch and waiting for Kate and David to wake. You see even thought it was super cold and I desperately DID NOT want to get out of bed I pushed myself to do it. Why you might ask? I already have everything wrapped, the house tidy, stockings filled, breakfast planned. BUT I had to snower, wash and fix my hair and put on makeup. Cause I want some good pictures of our family today and I can’t do that with funky hair and no makeup! SO here I sit waiting for them to get up while I’m so giggly and excited for them to open their gifts. Waiting…waiting…waiting….

Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you have a beautiful day filled with laughter, giving & recieving awesome gifts, fellowship and a slew of good food!

The time has come…

…when the numbers on my DSLR actually mean something to me. At first when I got my camera it was totally like trying to learn a different language. I didn’t know an ISO from a PB&J HAAA! But in time, practice AND reading Understanding Exposure it’s all starting to come together. We put our tree up a couple weekends ago and I captured these photos of our sweet girl indoors, with no flash in MANUAL mode. I know that to some this might be no big deal, but for me it’s seriously big news! It was also so much fun to witness Kate’s excitement over decorating the tree. She was so interested in the tree and the ornaments and re-arranging the ornament placement again and again. Gosh I love our sweet girl! It really is more fun experiencing the holidays with a little one, they are just so sweet and innocent and make the whole process filled to the BRIM in excitement!

Also, I’ll be heading home to Oklahoma for a visit soon and I’m scheduling some photo shoots to help me practice. They will be 100% free of charge and I’ll just give people a CD of their photos afterwards to print however many they would like. Soooo…if you are in the OK area and want some free shots and have time to be patient with a newbie…let me know! :)
Merry Christmas everyone!

Sweet Peace

Posted on December 22, 2007

So I recently experienced a beautiful morning. Full of a heap of simple pleasures that when bundled together made for one of those moments where you can’t help but stop and go, “Yup…life is good, I’m so thankful!” I even documented the moment with a picture. So let me set the stage:
Slept in until 8:30 (Pleasure 1) and Kate was still sleeping (Pleasure 2). I walked into my kitchen and gave a happy sigh at my clean counter and sink, which I’d MADE myself clean before bed (Pleasure 3). I made a pot of coffee that was JUST the right amount of water to coffee and managed to also add in the perfect amount of delicious vanilla creamer to my cup-o-joe, not to little, not to much (Pleasure 4). I sat down at my kitchen table and observed the perfect stack of three (count ‘um THREE) brand new Rachael Ray cookbooks that I got for my birthday (pleasure 5) and I spent the next few moments thumbing through them and sipping my coffee and planning what brand new meal I wanna surprise David with when he comes home from being out of town (Pleasure 6).
Loved the silence, the morning light spilling in the window, loved the smell of coffee and just the stillness of the lovely, un-expected moment.

I hope you all find your un-expected moment of simple loveliness. They might not last long (mine only lasted about 15 minutes until my girl woke for the day), but it’s beautifully refreshing!

Giving of Thanks

Posted on December 4, 2007

First of all…sorry for not posting in awhile…I’m having issues with Blogger and Live Writer, it’s quite irritating that I’m not able to figure out how to post photos here through Live Writer, especially since I was able to with my last two posts with no problem…Grrrr…Any suggestions? It keeps giving me some kind of error about needing an FTP or FPT (I can’t remember) host.

On with the post:

Thanksgiving is a great time of year. We should take more than one day a year to express all the things we’re thankful for, but I am glad there is one time a year for us to step back and give thanks for all the blessings in our world. Our Thanksgiving was great. No one spit out my cooking so in that reguard I guess it was a success! I had great plans to take photos of all the dishes I created but with the hoopla of cooking I just flat out didn’t have time! I did manage to take the rolls aside and photograph them:

Aren’t they purdy??? I was so proud of them because they are the recipe my mom makes every holiday and of all I tackled THESE were the most important to me, which I know is funny cause really wouldn’t you rather have a great turkey, stuffing or pumpkin pie during the holidays, yet these dinner rolls were super important to me. HA! Oh and as a side note, that cool green dish I got at a Goodwill store for $2 in little ol’ Chelsea, Oklahoma in the Summer of 2003. It was a couple weeks before I met David and I remember buying it and thinking, “Why am I even bothering buying something so domestic when I’m all alone and by myself?” Then I met my man and I quickly found myself in domestic BLISS! I love the cool green color!

I was also thankful to get a shot of me loving on my sweet girl. David took this of us on Thanksgiving night, it was after all the dishes were cleaned up, the food stacked neatly in the fridge and our bellies comfortably stuffed. Nice, calm evening. Love this sweet picture:

She’s what I’m most thankful for. Of everyone in the the world she is the one I spend the most time with, talk the most to, giggle the most with. She’s my little blessing and I love her dearly!
Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving full of yummy food, great fellowship and tons of smiles.
Cheers!
